One of Canterbury’s oldest buildings, The Parrot was built on Roman foundations in the 14th century - while the city’s famous cathedral was under construction nearby.

Tucked away down a picturesque cobbled street, the historic hostelry still wears its age with sublime style - a wealth of medieval beams, enormous oak floorboards and authentic open fires providing an atmospheric backdrop to fine food and drink.

Indeed, it’s not just history and heritage that makes this a special spot, there’s genuinely first-class fare to savour.

For ale aficionados, there’s up to six real ales at the bar, including award-winning local beer from Kent brewer Shepherd Neame.

And for foodies, an array of marvellous morsels await. Whether you’re seeking nibbles to accompany a crisp glass of wine, a thick doorstep sandwich for lunch or an elegant evening meal with friends, The Parrot has a menu to suit.

When you’ve something to celebrate, you can even enjoy a banquet of your own in the first floor Medieval function room. Special occasions deserve a special setting, and with six centuries of history, The Parrot certainly fits the bill…

"There is no sincerer love than the love of food"

What our customers say ...

“Must visit” 5 of 5 stars - The parrot is rich in history, dating back to the 13th century and the oldest pub in Canterbury... Going to this amazing pub is like stepping back to the Tudor times. Seating upstairs in the old banquet hall is and experience to remember. The food is to die for, being a high end pub you have to be patient when you don’t book as it’s so busy. But still go as they will find you a seat to eat. The food is the best pub food in Canterbury, the menu is rich and lots to choose from, from classic pub food to amazing meats and Devine dishes. If I could give this establishment a 10/10 I would. I will go here anytime I can! GO GO GO AND EAT DRINK AND BE MERRY

“What a little gem!” 5 of 5 stars We discovered the Parrot on our tour of Canterbury. It was near a remnant of the old Roman wall and was built back in 1370. The service was really friendly and it was lovely speaking to the waiters and the manager about the restaurant. The food was great - the posh fish fingers and the three fish pie were excellent. The ambience was lovely and the setting couldn't be better. We really enjoyed the experience and the food.

“Good job guys!” 5 of 5 stars - Family visit for six of us. We mostly had their 'sizzler' options which we all enjoyed, nicely presented on trays of wood. The service was friendly and efficient and the food all arrived at once. Nice unhurried atmosphere. And good Beer!!
